Chipsealing
About Chipsealing
Fulton Hogan Ltd has been contracted by Tauranga City Council to carry out chipsealing works in your area. This work is part of the Council’s annual programme, improving road safety and investing in our roading assets.
What is Chipsealing?
Chipseal is where we add a layer of sprayed bitumen/asphalt to a surface followed by adding a layer or two of chip (crushed stone) which is then rolled into the surface. Chipseal tends to be used on roads with lower traffic and is less affected by heavy traffic.
What should I expect during the work?
Our roadworks include heavy machinery which unfortunately can create noise, vibration, and dust. Please bear with us during our operations.
Access may be temporarily affected due to the operations being undertaken. Please cooperate with our traffic control staff when needing access in and out of your property.
After sealing you will notice a lot of loose chip on the road. This is completely normal. This can occur for several weeks/ months after the chipseal has been laid. We will continue to monitor for loose chip and sweep when necessary.
How can I keep myself and my belongings safe during this time?
Where you can, please avoid recently resealed areas and check your shoes before going inside or getting into your vehicle. This can also stick to your tires so check before driving your vehicle into your garage, particularly if it is carpeted.
Bitumen can be effectively removed from surfaces by using turpentine or kerosene.
Please maintain the temporary speed limit – loose stone chips are to be expected on the road for a few days. Driving too fast will flick loose stone chips from the road and/or may damage the new seal.
Initially to avoid overturning or dragging stone chips, please drive carefully in and out of your driveway/on-street parking this will assist in the performance of the seal.
